Monash Sinfonia is an un-conducted string ensemble that offers outstanding string students the opportunity to work with musicians of the highest caliber, both in Australia and overseas. Since its formation in 1996, Monash Sinfonia has performed at the Port Fairy Festival, Melbourne International Arts Festival, Robert Blackwood Hall, BMW Edge-Federation Square, Ripponlea and Melbourne Recital Centre.

Collaborative artists have included Wilma Smith, Miki Tsunoda, Paul Wright, Jeffrey Crellin, Tin Alley String Quartet, Consort of Melbourne, Kenji Fujimura, Rohan Murray, Choir of Trinity College and Paul Grabowsky.

Internationally, Monash Sinfonia has toured Italy and Brazil, premiering new works by Thomas Reiner and Jonatas Manzoli. International collaborations have included performances with American violinist Tim Fain, Serbian violin virtuoso Nemanja Radulovic, composer/conductor Eric Whitacre and tenor Andrew Goodwin.

In 2015, Monash Sinfonia will perform at the Melbourne Recital Centre under the direction of early music specialist Paul Dyer, as part of an educational partnership between Monash University and the Australian Brandenberg Orchestra.

Elizabeth Sellars is a distinguished soloist and chamber musician described as “dynamically exciting” (The Australian) and “one of the few violinists … who can handle works that move in new directions” (The Age).

Ticketless entry to Society concerts

The Society wishes to reduce its paper use and to reinvest increasing printing costs in attracting and supporting artists and securing the future of the unique and important Lyrebird Commission.

To this end, members are advised that, after the May 2015 concert, the Society will no longer issue individual member concert tickets for its annual concert series. Instead, members and their guests will be invited to identify themselves upon entry and attendance will be recorded on a membership door list.

As always, visitors are welcome to purchase concert entry on the day.
