Meet the Artists
Susan PierOtti.. began learning the violin at the age of six with Stella Nemet, and continued her studies with her daughter Mary Nemet at the Victorian College of the Arts and in London with Emanuel Hurwitz where she played with the London Sinfonietta, the London Mozart Players and the Capicchioni Ensemble.
Since then, Susan has enjoyed a career experience spanning symphony orchestras, opera, ballet, chamber music, teaching, theatre, film, recordings, live broadcasts, radio and television. She has worked with a wide variety of performers, including KM te Kanawa, Yvonne Kenny, Placido Domingo, Harry Secombe, John Farnham, Victor Borge and Sir Cliff Richard. Susan regularly adjudicates for the Melbourne Lyceum Club’s Margaret Sutherland Bursary Scholarship and is a reviewer for the Australian String Association’s magazine, Stringendo. Susan has been closely involved in commissioning, performing and recording contemporary music for over two decades. She has worked with the Elision ensemble since its inception in 1986, and has toured with them to Europe, Asia and throughout Australia. Other international engagements include concerts in Austria, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, Norway, the Philippines, the U.K. and the U.S.A.Susan has worked extensively with several Australian orchestras and joined Orchestra Victoria in 1990 where she is now its Deputy Associate Concertmaster.
Robin Baker.. Commencing piano at an early age in Melbourne, Robin represents the fourth generation of a musical family. She studied both solo piano and piano accompaniment at the Royal Northern College of Music in England and gained postgraduate Professional Performing Diplomas from both the RNCM and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Robin performed in manyconcerts in Britain and Europe both as chamber musician and piano accompanist.
After returning to Australia, she continued a busy freelance career and has been a staff pianist and repetiteur at the University of Melbourne and Victorian College of the Arts. Robin is pianist in Aequales and has toured Asia in the Szigeti Trio, giving master classes and concerts.
